During the first two years of activity the Miss Commonwealth organizers collected £4 million pounds for charity.
The organization is divided into several blocks, each dealing with a problematic area in the world.
Every participant in her category has a mission to promote awareness in environmental protection, starving children
in Africa, abused animals, family values, motherhood and AIDS epidemic.
To take part in the competition it is not enough to be a beautiful woman, but also to have profound
charitable activities. Applicants, who compete in different age groups, must be involved in actions,
designed to publicizing the most troubling problems of the world now. The organizers claim that ladies
participating from take part in charity work to raise money for starving children
from their home countries.
Regeneration and happiness :
Poland will take part for the first time in the competition. The proud representatives, each in her age category,
will be mother and daughter - Dorota and Marta Lopatynska de Slepowron. Both are intensely preparing themselves
for the contest, as it will be a tough competition - with more than 100 candidates. The contest will have
several scenes when the candidates will present themselves in evening dress, sports, national costume and
casual. Both ladies are much occupied with the outfits. Fortunately, this is not such a big issue because Dorota
herself is a fashion designer and she has designed the costumes for herself and for Marta.
"They are of course white and red, although they differ from traditional national costumes. Marta
in her dress looks like a real angel," says proud Dorota, who is also a talented painter. During
the Miss Commonwealth gala several items were on auction to raise money for charity, among them were
also two paintings by her. They were "Mysterious Egg" and "Rainbow Tree". The first shows butterflies
and a colorful egg, located among four-leaved clovers.
"The painting shows rebirth, regeneration, abundance in every culture, hopes for the future,
peace and friendly people in the world and endless happiness," explains Dorota. "The main theme of
the second image is a colorful tree," says Dorota - the title holder of Mrs Poland Environmental
Queen of Friends of the Commonwealth. "I promote planting of trees in parks and gardens. In fact,
everywhere where there is room for it. All this is to compensate for the loss of rainforests."
Hope for the future :
In addition, the two ladies Dorota and Marta Lopatynska de Slepowron support a shelter for animals,
which is likely to survive only thanks to donations of people of good will. Recently they donated
armful of towels and food. "They are our friends in good times and bad," says Dorota about animals.
Her biggest concern, however, is global warming; hence her purpose is to plant trees. She says,
"Global warming is a problem for all and it will have irreversible consequences for us."
Marta's ambition, in turn, is to prove to all the women participating in competitions that women
can boast not only beauty, but also intelligence. Marta feels that her vocation is to help people
and animals. Previously she worked as a model and she started, among others, in Miss Polonia contest -
but her dream is to work at the consulate, where she could use her linguistic skills to work close
to people.
" My inspiration for me is my Mum, who can paint beautifully and design clothes. In addition, she has
taken part in many television programs and I admire her for her achievement, she takes her work seriously," she says.
The biggest prize for both would be the opportunity to help the Children's Home in Gdansk if they won the main title
of Miss Commonwealth International.
" Dorota and Marta are extraordinary ladies. They can work amazingly hard for success and they have huge
determination to strive for. They are not only beautiful, but also blessed with a good heart," says
the main organizer of the Miss Commonwealth , Philip Prinslyn -Patrick .
